Can you trust feedback ratings on Ebay?
Recently, having won an auction on ebay, I eagerly awaited the delivery of the product purchased:- a refurbished lap top. The item was duly delivered wrapped in bubble wrap. When I opened the package, I could smell "new paint" disappointing as it was, I accepted that as it was a refurbished product, this was understandable. Further inspection revealed paint on the screen and the keyboard and a broken usb port. Needless to say, I contacted the seller who agreed to replace the item with another and who also apologised. The replacement never arrived! My immediate reaction was to leave negative feedback for the seller. This presented it's own set of problems. When first trying to leave the negative feedback, I was confronted by an automated message from ebay stating that I need to go through a tutorial to show my understanding of negative feedback before allowing me to do so. I went through this process, not once but 3 times!! but ebay would still not allow me to leave negative feedback. Totally frustrated by the whole episode and being disgusted with ebay, I did exactly the opposite to what I intended and left a level of feedback that ebay would allow! This leaves me to conclude, that the feedback ratings on ebay are a farce and anyone using them as a guide to make purchases from a seller, should view them with caution. |
